NSU Quickly Racer

Beitrag von areofall »

Hello from Northern Ireland, sorry I don't speak German. Hope you like the pictures. The race is only in it's early days of restoration. My Grandfather built a Quickly racer in the 1950's which won a big road race called the Temple 100 with it.

As purchased.

Hello aerofall

Greetings from Germany

Nice Pictures and a lot of work to do for the next winterseason.

Is it legal in Ireland,to drive a 50cc bike that looks like a racebike (with running ligths, and Horn) ,to run with it on a normal street ?

Show us more pictures in the future.
I am interested about your homework.

Regards, Ralf

My english is not the best.I hope you understand me! :D

Hello Aerofall,

The pictures indicate, that you don't shy away from ambitious projekts. Did I get you right, that you intend to recreate your grandfather's Quickly racer? And do you still have some pictures of this moped? I'm sure I'm not the only one here who is very interested in seeing the "Temple 100 winner".

Welcome here and take care - Peter

Hi everyone, Thank you for the nice comments, I have some pictures of the original quickly and will post them but they are poor quality. As I have used a 3 speed bike I will have to stick with the square tank and my Grandfathers bike had a peanut type tank.
Here in N Ireland we have to have a safety check on motorcycle each year called a "MOT" the goverenment will issue a daylight MOT if the bike had a rear brake light and reflector and this allows you to use it in dayligh hours, to ride at night you need full lighting equipment. This bike will not be road legal though.

Just a little progress, wheels stripped, bearings and off to the vapour blasters, want to leave them a satin finish just as they come from the blasters.

Today, made a type of Jig to hold the foot peg bosses for welding in. The right side needs a little milling to sit flush into the frame over the frame ribbing.

As promised the original Quickly Racer. No more progress on my racer as yet.

The pictures were taken from a motorcycle magazine of the time.

Hi aerofall,
thanks for sharing the pics!
So it is finished now as it seems... i'd like to know more about your setup. (Carb, modification of cylinder ...)
And -of course THAT question appears- what is the top speed ?
